By now we all know that green is the new black, eco-chic is an ongoing trend. To celebrate innovative in fashion and sustainability is a fashion auction which benefits the St. Vincent de Paul Society of San Francisco. The auction has piqued national interest in sustainable design while touting the four R’s of life: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Respect.
Bay Area fashion designers including Jessica McClintock, Colleen Quen, Nice Collective, Cari Borja, Verrieres & Sako, Michael Boris and Sara Shepherd join students from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM), City College of San Francisco and Academy of Art University in creating one-of-a-kind fashions from discarded materials inspired by the de Young Museum’s permanent collection.
The
April 26th Gala Evening features a "green" cocktail reception with wine
provided by French Rabbit in eco-friendly packaging (for every four
wines sold, one tree is planted), hors d'oeuvres from local green
restaurants such as Roots and Daffodil, compostable SpudWare plates and
cutlery made of potatoes and vegetable starch, and 100% natural GuS
soda.

About Heath Ceramics: Founded in 1948 by artist Edith Heath and her husband Brian, Sausalito, Calif.-based Heath Ceramics is a designer and manufacturerof handcrafted, limited production tableware and architectural tiles. Thefounders’ contribution to the history of California pottery is celebrated innumerous museum permanent collections, including MOMA in New York.
The legacy of Heath Ceramics can be found, from tile cladding the exteriors of the Norton Simon Museum and San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center, to the tableware at Slanted Door restaurant, San Francisco; Four Seasons hotel restaurants, worldwide; and The Park, New York.
In 2003, the company welcomed new owners Catherine Bailey and RobinPetravic. Today, Heath Ceramics enjoys continuous production since 1948, employing the same production techniques, equipment, and staff, at the original Sausalito factory location.

As usual, the promotion works like this: you donate items to A Miner Miracle,
and they'll you discounts on purchases in our stores.
This time, however, you must take your items to the AMM drop-off location. Do not bring them to the retail locations, nstead, bring the itemized receipt for your donation, which AMM will provide.
AMM accepts clothing donations on Mondays from 9:00 to 4:00. AMM is located at 414 Mason St., Suite 500. The phone number is 415.217.7230.
Another change affects the way the discounts are doled out. If you donate 1 or 2 items, you’ll get 10% off 1 or 2 items.
If you donate 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 items, you’ll get 20% off 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 items.
If you donate 8 or more items, you’ll get 30% off the same number of items.
Oh, and there’s a significant exception: on denim, the highest possible discount is 10%, no matter how many items you donate. Sorry, but denim is precious!
You don’t have to use your discounts all at once, but you must use them no later than May 31. After that day, all unused discounts will expire.
Limitations on the promotion: Discount not valid on sale items or special orders. You can’t transfer them to other people. You can’t combine them with other offers or on past purchases.

For Rachel Riley, her fondest memories of summer as a young girl has inspired an exciting clothing collection that leaves you feeling happy, feminine and pretty. A nationwide press preview and trunk show of her spring/summer 06 collection includes New York on November 11 and 12 at the new Rachel Riley Manhattan store.
Riley’s trademark use of traditional needlework techniques such as hand-smocking, -embroidering and –knitting continues in new and unique applications in her infants, children, teens and women’s lines.
Along with Riley’s signature fine needlework applications, her spring/summer 06 collection is bursting with bright 1950s classic patterns in ginghams and polka dots, French Mauny wallpaper-inspired prints and floral patterns. Utilizing fabrics in cottons and linens, Riley has introduced smocking in her ladies line for the first time: smocked bodices, shoulder and back details. A nautical theme runs throughout the line.

San Francisco Responds is a collaborative event coordinated to help Habitat for Humanity in its
efforts to rebuild homes in the areas destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Of the funds raised 100% will be donated to Habitat International, the primary organization dedicated to implementing the
rebuilding effort after this consuming natural catastrophe.
San Francisco Responds will be held in San Francisco’s iconic City Club. The art deco
jewel speaks to San Francisco's unique style with authentic 1930’s grandeur and décor as well as murals by the California early modern painter Diego Rivera. The evening will showcase the best that San Francisco has to offer including music by local Electronica Jazz trio, Sutro, a silent auction of over 100 items ranging from a nights stay at some of our finest bed and breakfasts to outdoor excursions in the rustic Russian River area, and attendance bylocal political figures including Mark Leno and Bevan Dufty.

On Sunday, October 16th, CAPSULE will once again be closing the alley of Minna Street, between 2nd St. and New Montgomery, filling it with 80+ designers offering all varieties of clothing and accessories. This is still the largest independent design sale of the year. Vendors will represent men's and women's clothing and accessories including multi-use bags, purses, belts, hats, jewelry, glasses, as well as photography, paintings, and other goods.
Capsule is open to all clothing and accessory designers, we encourage as well the participation of life-style product designers, i.e., housewares, furniture, household knick-knacks, etc.
